Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): The 1st Passing Out Ceremony of Livingstone Foundation Volleyball Coaching Centre was held at the Livingstone Foundation International (LFI) auditorium on March 24.
Gracing the occasion, District Sports Officer and District Youth Resources Officer, Dimapur, N Vineikholie urged graduating players to uphold discipline and maintain healthy daily habits, including their diet.
He also highlighted various government initiatives to encourage sports and games, including Catch Them Young and Khelo India, which have been instrumental in grooming young and talented sports enthusiasts from Nagaland and the North East.
Vineikholie also expressed hope that the centre would not only help hone the skills of young volleyball players but also provide a disciplined environment to nurture them to represent the state and region at various levels.
According to a press release, the coaching centre is an independent initiative of LFI without any external aid and has always emphasised a holistic and all-round development of students beyond academics and bookish education.
For holistic education, including the development of sports and other skills, more such initiatives, like the introduction of professional coaching camps for other sports disciplines, including football, basketball, and traditional games like lagori (Seven Stones) are in the pipeline, stated the LFI release.
Speaking on the occasion, LFI Chairman and President of the coaching centre, Dr Andrew Ahoto Sema, appreciated the State Government, especially the Department of Sports and Youth Resources, for their wholehearted support in setting up the centre and for partnering in the development of latent sporting talent.
He also highlighted the emerging role of sports and games in career development, noting that many athletes have been provided with lucrative opportunities by the government.
To this end, he emphasised that equal importance should be given to setting up more sports coaching centres across the state, similar to the mushrooming of coaching centres for academic and competitive examinations.
Dr Sema also challenged the volleyball players to be assets to the nation, to always remain humble, disciplined and to give back to society.
He further expressed his gratitude to Yongkongtenzuk, the Head Coach of the centre, for training the players in record time and for his professional efforts in bringing recognition to the centre.
Director of LFI, Ani Yepthomi; and the Centre’s Secretary Talinukshi Ao were also present at the ceremony.
