Liangmen fish sanctuary inaugurated in Nokpu

Mokokchung, June 22 (MExN): the Liangmen Fish Sanctuary was inaugurated on June 21 at Nokpu village under Mangkolemba subdivision in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district.

The sanctuary, the first of its kind in the area, was established through a collaborative effort by the Tzükhuchanger Jupang, Nokpu Village Council, and Saringyim (Nokpu B) Village Council. As part of the launch, nearly 50,000 fish nursery stock were released into the Liangmen River to kickstart the conservation process.

Officials said the sanctuary is aimed at preserving aquatic life, spreading awareness on environmental sustainability, and maintaining the ecological balance of the region. It is also expected to serve as a scenic destination for visitors and nature enthusiasts.

The organisers expressed gratitude to Temsuwapang Longchar, Assistant Fisheries Inspector (AFI), Mokokchung, for facilitating the supply of fish nursery stock. Special thanks were also extended to Lanuchuba Imchen, DMC Councillor of Ward 20, for his support in the project.

The Tzükhuchanger Jupang further revealed plans for a larger conservation initiative that will include both aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity.
