Lierie Baptist Church constructs footbridge in Kohima

Adding ease to church goers crossing the National Highway, a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) was inaugurated today at Lierie Colony, Kohima by Lierie Baptist Church (LBC). 

Dedicating the newly inaugurated bridge to the Lord, Neichüriazo Chücha, Pastor, LBC after praying and cutting the ribbon of the bridge gate said the foot overbridge is a “provision of God” and thanked and praised the Lord, for bestowing blessings and wisdom upon the church members, especially the development committee members to build such an important amenity for its people. 

Chücha opined that it is through God that the people has given their best. He dedicated and submitted the bridge to the lord. The pastor also thanked all those who came forward and contributed in various means financially, physically and rendered their valuable time. 

Chücha called upon the people to utilise the bridge and to seek blessing and enhance their spiritual lives. He said that as long as the bridge is used, the pastor prayed to let it bless all those who walk the path. 

Speaking about the project from inception till completion, Keneikrul Noswe, Convener, Over Bridge Committee said the idea to construct a foot over bridge began in March 2022. It took about 20 months to complete the footbridge, construction of which was led by 6 committee members including Keneikrül Noswe as Convener, Tseivilie Miachieo, Dr Zawhel Mekro, Er Neiyie Neikha, Vikhoto Mekro and Kedivi Mekro. 

He said, since the over bridge was to cross a National Highway, there were many formalities to complete and adhere to before construction could begin. Being over a National Highway, norms of FOB constructions should be 6 metres/about 19 ft above the road. The convener said, as per measurement record, the bridge was 21 ft above the road. 

Noswe meanwhile mentioned Nagaland State Disaster Management Committee, Power department, the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Public Works Department, PHE Department, and SP Traffic who played major role in enabling the construction to complete without impasse. 

Noswe also thanked various donors who donated in cash, including landowner. With the contribution of various donors, the total estimate and expenditure of the footbridge was about Rs 26 lakh. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Tseivilie Miachieo and LBC youths presented song.
