‘Life skills help youth translate knowledge’

Kohima, February 11 (MExN): Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kohima has conducted Life Skills training programme for the youth of Zubza area at Don Bosco School, Zubza from February 7 to 11.
All together 62 youth gathered for the training programme. NYKS across the country is carrying out this hurricane task  of building youth capacity as Life skills help young people translate knowledge, develop appropriate attitudes and inculcate values that would help them acquire the ability to reduce expose to specific risk factors and augment protective factors.
This in turn would help in the instillation of responsible behavior and contribute towards improved lifestyle. The Youth of India passing through a critical phase. At one side, the globalisation has opened a huge market for them the related challenges of strive competitions for survival and the need for enhanced competency has been felt more than ever before, on the other hand, social fabric of India is in turmoil due to various disintegrating factors like the functioning of terrorist groups, insurgents, violence and conflicts. The secure living of the adolescence and youth are becoming tricky day by day.
Though the situation of youth and adolescence are vulnerable across the country, the issues of them in North Eastern part of India are still precarious. The existing problems of underdevelopment coupled with violence and terrorist and insurgence attack made their live miserable.  The challenges of them are manifold and hence the skills for survival are manifold. Younger generation not only required livelihood skills but life skills also.
Options for livelihood skills are many, where as the attempts to provide life skills training to the youngster are scanty. In order to build competencies among the youth, life skills training on Self-awareness, and Empathy, Decision Making and Problem Solving, Creative Thinking and Critical Thinking, Effective Communication and Interpersonal Relationship, Coping with Emotion and Stress and Conflict resolution and peace are the other alternatives to help youngster to thrive well for their wellbeing.
Rev. Sr. Biya, Pelenizo, and John Makhabo, District Youth Coordinator, NYK, Kohima animated the programme. Rev. Fr. Athili Martin, Principal and Rev. Fr. Paul, Administrator, DBS were also part of the programme. The programme included lively with songs, party games, sharing, group discussions etc. The youth look forward to further follow up of the programme they had attended.
