Lift ban on street vending or allocate alternate location: WSYF appeals

DIMAPUR, APRIL 29 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has urged the Dimapur district administration to consider lifting the ban on street vending in clock tower area while expressing concern that it was affecting the livelihood of many unemployed Naga youth.

In a press release, media cell, WSYF suggested that the concerned authority reconsider their decision and permit the Naga youths to earn their livelihood by fixing appropriate work timing and creating mechanism to check any wrongdoings.

Also drawing comparisons, it sought to point out that in the busiest markets and streets such as New Market, Old market, Hongkong market, MP road etc., non-locals are allotted fast food stalls and run businesses day and night throughout the year but the clock tower area is the only place where the local youths run business during night hours.

And should the authority stand its ground on its order to ban street food courts in toto in the said area, the youth front has appealed that an alternate location be allocated to food court vendors at the earliest so as to allow them to run businesses and earn their livelihood.

In the event of the authority reconsidering its banning order, the youth front has assured full cooperation and if permitted, would even consider deputing its volunteers to assist the district administration.

The WSYF has meanwhile acknowledged the decision taken by government of the day to extend Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.

In this connection, it has appealed all kükami (GBs) and council of villages and towns that fall under the Western Sümi jurisdiction to be vigilant on this issue and cooperate with the authorities by insuring all non indigenous people of Nagaland residing under its territory obtain ILP at the given time.
