Likimro Project handed over; power situation to ‘improve’

Dimapur, June 23 (MExN): The 3x8 Mw Likimro Hydel Electric Project has been formally handed over to NEC Energy Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon by the Government of Nagaland, on June 8, for operation and maintenance of the power plant on lease for 10 years as per the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the State and the said firm. 

Informing of this, Chief Engineer (Power) Kohima stated that at present only one out of three units is generating 8Megawatts during peak period and 6 megawatts during off-peak while the remaining units will also start generating shortly. “With Likimro in the grid the power-supply to the State Capital has improved considerably during this ongoing (Soccer) World Cup season. The supply will further stabilize once all three units of the project are in operation” the notification asserted. “This is an achievement of the State government as the state will benefit immensely from stability of power supply and also reduce power purchase cost which is draining the State’s exchequer heavily” the release added. 

The State Government and the power department wished NEC Energy Pvt. Ltd all the best in their endeavor in running the project and “let the people of the state benefit for the purpose for which it was built”.
