Lions Club of Dimapur Elite holds anti-tobacco awareness programme, oratory contest

Officials along with the faculty and students of Pilgrim Higher Secondary School during an awareness programme in Dimapur on May 30.

Dimapur, June 1 (MExN): Marking World No Tobacco Day, Lions Club of Dimapur Elite on May 30 organised a Youth Awareness Programme and Oratory Competition at Pilgrim Higher Secondary School, Dimapur to educate students on the harmful effects of tobacco and substance abuse.

The programme, aimed at promoting healthy and addiction-free lifestyles, featured an awareness session for students of Classes 8 to 12. Around 400 participants, including students, teachers and members of the Lions Club, attended the event.

Dr Arihant Jain, an orthodontist and dentofacial orthopedician, served as the resource person and delivered a session on the dangers of tobacco and substance abuse. He highlighted the importance of making responsible choices and adopting healthy lifestyle practices.

As part of the programme, an oratory competition was conducted for students of Classes 10 to 12, drawing participation from 20 contestants. The students spoke on topics related to tobacco control, prevention of substance abuse and healthy living, demonstrating awareness, confidence and public speaking skills.

The event was held under the leadership of Lions Club of Dimapur Elite president Meena Sethi and coordinated by project chairpersons Isha Jain and CA Swati Jain.

The club expressed gratitude to the management, faculty and students of Pilgrim Higher Secondary School for their cooperation and support in organising the programme.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates, reaffirming the commitment of students, educators and community members towards building a tobacco-free, addiction-free and healthier society.
