Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): The Lions Club of Dimapur Elite organised a two-week social media awareness campaign, #PlasticFreeStartsHere, to highlight the harmful effects of single-use plastic and promote sustainable alternatives.

The campaign, held from April 18 to 26 in observance of Environment Week, featured a series of activities aimed at community engagement and awareness.

As part of the initiative, plastic-free sanitary pads were distributed in Nagarjan Basti (Master Colony), where women were also sensitised on hygiene, health and environmentally sustainable practices.

The club further conducted a cloth bag distribution drive across key areas of Dimapur, including New Market, Durga Mandir and Church Road. More than 1,000 cloth bags were distributed to vendors, hawkers, shopkeepers and passersby.

During the drive, members interacted with the public, encouraging reduced use of plastic and adoption of eco-friendly alternatives.

The campaign was carried out in the presence of District Governor Lalit Kumar Kothari, District Governor-elect Dr Neena Dutta, GST Coordinator Neeta Agarwal, and Extension Officer Sandeep Bakliwal.
The initiative was executed by project chairpersons Sakshi Binaykia and Chitra Damani under the guidance of club president Meena Sethi.

The Lions Club of Dimapur Elite said the campaign reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility and community welfare, urging citizens to adopt small but meaningful steps towards a plastic-free future.
