Listen to the outcries of Naga tribal, students' bodies: KDCC

Kohima, January 25 (MExN): The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) while opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016 in totality with other Naga civil societies stated that the approval of the Bill in the Parliament "will not only give easy access to the illegal immigrants but will be an opportunity for them to stumble upon the rights of indigenous people."

The KDCC in a press statement issued by its Press Secretary Yangertemjen strongly asserted that the Bill will cause “grave danger as the self-right of the Nagas will slowly disappear and impact the future generation economically, socially and politically.”

The KDCC during a meeting on January 23 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima deliberating among other issues confronting Naga society termed the Bill as a massive threat to the very existence of the indigenous people of the North East region and more so to the Naga people. “We cannot leave such threat for future Naga generation,” the committee observed. It further viewed that that the CAB 2016 and Inner Line Permit of two different dimensions adding “even without the citizenship right the State has been witnessing unabated influx of illegal immigrants.”

The KDCC further appealed the Nagaland Government to carefully listen to the outcries of various Naga tribal and students’ bodies and raise their voice against the Bill at the Centre.
