A man was fined and debarred from operating within Litem Village after he admitted to possessing and operating with Illegal Foreign-Made Liquor (IMFL) in the village's jurisdiction, according to a press communiqué issued by the Litem Wedoshi Thangjam (Litem Students’ Union) on Monday.
The alleged accused was summoned along with witnesses to appear before the Court of Customary Law at the Community Hall, Litem Village, on August 4. The case was taken up following a reference issued on August 3.
During the hearing, the man confessed to storing IMFL at his project site in Phoba, Litem Village, where a “surprise inspection” had been carried out by members of the Litem Wedoshi Thangjam.
The Customary Court, upon reviewing the testimony and nature of the violation, imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000, one 100 kg pig, and ordered the individual to vacate his project site and the jurisdiction of Litem Village by 10:00 am on August 5.
The court further warned that failure to comply with the judgment or any attempt to reopen the case would invite stricter action in accordance with the customary laws of the village.
The decision was signed by the Court Chairman, Court Secretary, and office bearers of the Litem Wedoshi Thangjam.
