‘Literacy 95.7%, employability a concern in Nagaland’

Japanese Language Training launched in Mokokchung

The Mokokchung Chapter of ARMS Incorporation was officially launched at the conference hall, Whispering Winds, Mokokchungon October 29. The initiative, undertaken by INRIS India Foundation in collaboration with the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and ARMS Incorporation, aims to provide Japanese language training and enhance overseas employment opportunities for youths from Mokokchung and neighbouring districts.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, speaking on behalf of INRIS India Foundation, underscored the Foundation’s legacy of community service through education. He recalled the early efforts of his late father to make education accessible by establishing night schools at a time when the literacy rate in Nagaland was below 25%.

“Today, while literacy has reached 95.7%, employability has become a major concern,” he said. “This collaboration with ARMS Incorporation offers our youth a pathway to acquire skill sets and explore global opportunities, particularly in Japan. We hope the first batch from Mokokchung will become ambassadors of our district and State.”

He further noted that as society transitions into a globalised era, the younger generation must be prepared to seek opportunities beyond the State and country, and such initiatives will help them compete globally.

Meripeni, Project Lead, NSEDM-IDAN, termed the launch as the beginning of “dreams being unlocked” for young people in Mokokchung. Sharing a success story of a youth from Wokha who underwent Japanese language training and is now employed in Japan, she stated:“This is not only about language training; it is about launching dreams and opening possibilities for our youth.”

Extending greetings, Nagatoshi Shibata, Vice President, ARMS Incorporation, shared that over 325 youths from Nagaland are currently employed in Japan, with another 150 candidates awaiting visa clearance.

“The warmth, sincerity, and dedication of Naga youths have earned high regard in Japan,” he said. “We believe this new centre in Mokokchung will open doors for many more and foster cultural and knowledge exchange between Nagaland and Japan.”

Temjen Bursanen Jamir, Director (External Affairs), ARMS Incorporation, briefed on the six-month Japanese Language Training Programme, including preparatory training for the Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP) and Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) schemes. He said ARMS aims to train and facilitate overseas employment for 500–800 youths across Nagaland in caregiving, manufacturing, agriculture, construction and other sectors.

Representatives from the State Bank of India informed that education loans ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs7.5 lakh will be provided with 100% financing and no collateral requirement.

Short remarks were also delivered by Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Imkongchuba, Chairman MMC, and Lanutoshi Aier, President AKM. The programme also featured reflections by Ao Senden President, Marsanen Imsong, and MMC Member and Advisor, MCCI, M.B. Longkumer.

Earlier in the day, the Office of ARMS Incorporation at Arkong Ward was officially inaugurated by Imtitoshi Pongen, Councillor MMC.
