A growing pile of waste at the corner of the public ground in Wokha is becoming an eyesore and a matter of concern for many residents.
What was once a clean and open space used by the community for morning walks, evening games, or simply relaxing, is now littered with plastic bags, food wrappers, bottles, and other discarded items.
The accumulation of garbage over the past several days has prompted concern among regular visitors. Youths who frequent the ground to practise football, along with passers-by, shared that the area is not only unpleasant to look at but has also begun to emit a foul smell, particularly during the warmer parts of the day.
“This is one of the few open spaces we have. Seeing it like this makes us wonder if we really care about our surroundings,” some commented.
Notably, there is no official signage or warning in place to deter people from dumping waste in the area. While some locals attribute the problem to negligence, others point to the absence of proper waste disposal facilities nearby.
Regardless of the cause, most agree that the public ground deserves better care with growing call for awareness and shared responsibility among citizens.
We all enjoy this place, it’s only fair that we also look after it,” a passer-by remarked.
For now, the waste remains unattended. However, visitors expressed hope that with greater awareness and collective effort, the ground can be restored to its clean and welcoming condition.
