Dimapur | August 13 :
Music can be defined as the art of combining vocal or instrumental sound (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony and expression of emotion. Since time immemorial it has been used as a creative medium to carry messages and tidings of all kinds. It is the language of the soul and people of all faiths have used it to appeal to the human heart.
With this inspiration, ‘Little Tune’ a children singing group came into form in year 2009. ‘Little Tune’ is a gospel band consisting of a group of anointed local kids who are singing out their hearts to Jesus. The group was created by CEF (Child Evangelical Fellowship) teacher, Sashi Kichu out of strong desire to see children saved and truly used in ministry as powerful witnesses for the Lord. Feeling the need for children to be truly encouraged, ministered to and trained “in the way that they should go.” Sashi Kichu has been shaping and moulding them up and what joy it is to watch these young boys grown to spread the message of love. Sashi Kichu from Khensa Village under Mokokchung district is the son of Imchatemsü Kichu.
The objective of “Little Tunes” is to make the young singer “Ambassador for Christ witnessing for the Lord through their music.” Initially only boys were in the group but now even some girls have joined them. The members of ‘Little Tunes” are above 8 years of age. They are selected through a vocal test and also based on their talent in music. This group has performed at the NSF conference 2011, AKM 2011, ‘Nagaland Contribute-in aid of Japan Earthquake and Tsunami’ concert and many other concerts held by churches and ministries.
Following the encouragement from music lovers, parents of the children and many other well wishers, Sashi Kichu is now working on a project to set up a music school. The proposition of setting up a gospel music school for children has been made with the following points in mind: to draw them closer to God; to let them learn that they can live victories Christian lives for Jesus and still be used by God at a young age; to prove that children are important people too and they have a strong voice in the gospel music industry; to train them music theory, practical, instrumental, vocal training etc.
Dedicated only to gospel songs and music Sashi Kichu states, “Like other forms of music, the creation, performance, significance and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purpose, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purpose, and as an entertainment product for the market place. However, a theme of gospel music is praise, worship or thanks to God, or the Holy Spirit.”
“Rightly employed, music is a precious gift of God, designed to uplift the thoughts to high and noble themes, to inspire and elevate the soul. It is one of the most effective means of impressing the heart with spiritual truth,” added this young man with a big dream of making a difference in the gospel music scenario.
