Mokokchung, January 6 (MExN): Some excellent cricketing actions were seen at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex during the first day of the on going inter-club cricket tourney organized by the Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA). In the first match of the 21st Inter Club Cricket Tournament, Mokokchung, defending champions Wolverine registered an emphatic win after defeating their opponents by 61 runs. Winning the toss, Wolvering chose to bat first and scored 145 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Akumtong of Wolverine remained not out at 48 runs. Their opponents, the Musketeers, could manage to score a paltry 84 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Wolverine’s strong bowling attack backed by their tight fielding helped them restrict the Musketeers in their run chase, who managed to score at a run rate of 4.2 per over in contrast to their required run rate of 7.3 an over. In the second match, last year’s finalists and multiple title holders Brotherhood beat new entrants Sirenians by a margin of 81 runs. Brotherhood after winning the toss elected to bat first, but their batting skills slack through out their innings and could manage to score just 111 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Brotherhood has one of the strongest bowling attacks in Mokokchung’s cricketing domain, and as such their bowlers helped them bundle out the Sirenian boys for just 83 runs. Despite some unwise field placements, which is uncharacteristic of Brotherhood team, their bowlers led by Chubaodang pierced through the batting order of Sirenians. Save for their opener batsman Sunep, none of the Sirenian batsmen could face Brotherhood’s attacking seamers, and finally got all out despite chasing just 111 runs at a required run rate of under 6 runs an over.
