Dimapur, September 10 (MExN): The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has welcomed the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s approval of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, saying the legislative step should translate the commitments under the Tripartite Agreement into an effective mechanism for development and empowerment.
In a statement issued by its National Secretary S Richard Humtsoe, the party said it has remained supportive of the aspirations and concerns addressed through the FNTA process since the signing of the Tripartite Agreement. Humtsoe said the Assembly’s approval of the Bill was “a significant and welcome development,” adding that the party “wholeheartedly welcome[s] and support[s] this important legislative step.”
According to the statement, the Tripartite Agreement represented a commitment to address the longstanding developmental aspirations of the people of Eastern Nagaland. The legislative progress, it said, should be pursued in the spirit of “peace, partnership, inclusiveness and accelerated development.”
The party stressed that development should reach all regions and sections of society, particularly areas that have faced geographical, infrastructural and socio-economic challenges. It also called for the subsequent processes to be carried forward with “sincerity, mutual trust and a clear focus on the welfare of the people.”
Humtsoe appealed to all stakeholders to maintain unity, peace and constructive dialogue to ensure that the aspirations associated with the FNTA framework are fulfilled in a “transparent, effective and time-bound manner.”
The LJP (Ram Vilas) reiterated its support for the FNTA process, stating that the Bill’s approval was “not merely a legislative development” but an opportunity to build a more balanced and inclusive Nagaland. The party also expressed hope for the successful implementation of commitments arising from the Tripartite Agreement and for improved development, opportunities and institutional support for the people of Eastern Nagaland.
