The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization and the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organised an awareness programme for traders and entrepreneurs on September 23 at VDB Hall, Wokha Town under the theme “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
In his keynote address, T Aimong, Assistant Controller, LMCP Wokha, underlined that Viksit Bharat 2047 is not only about infrastructure or technological advancement but also about ethical and economic growth grounded in fairness, accountability, trust, and security in business transactions. Stressing that the business community forms the backbone of economic development, he urged traders to uphold ethical standards, follow the law, and act responsibly.
Speaking on the occasion, Renthungo Mozhui, General Secretary of Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, acknowledged the efforts of the department in organising the programme specifically for the business community. He reminded traders to remain mindful of government rules and regulations while managing their businesses.
A technical session was delivered by Silo Jemu, Inspector, LMCP Wokha, who explained the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules.
He highlighted the importance of standard weights and measures, the risks of non-standard practices, and key consumer protection elements such as net quantity, manufacturing and expiry dates, as well as penalties for violations.
Vungathung C Murry, President of the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a short address, appreciated the initiative and called for continued collaboration between the department and the business community.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where traders and businessmen engaged in open dialogue, clarifications, and sharing of experiences.
