Lok Adalat in Nagaland disposes 211 cases involving over Rs 3 cr

Dimapur, May 14 (MExN): As many as 211 cases or disputes were disposed by the 11 benches of the National Lok Adaklat which was organised throughout the state of Nagaland on Saturday. 

Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms; it is a forum where disputes or cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably.

Conducted by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of 11 districts set up benches in their respective district headquarters as part of the 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat for the current financial year.

According to a press release from the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority PRA, a total of 211 out of the 642 matters that were listed for compromise settlement were disposed off. These include disputes, matters, cases that have been pending or in the pre-litigation stage in the category of bank recovery, criminal compoundable cases, motor accident cases tribunal (MACT) and other cases like public utility. Settlement amount involved in some of the cases amounted to a total of Rs 3,14,95,820, the release stated.

District-wise, the Bench at Kiphire took up 12 cases out of which five were disposed with a total settlement amount of Rs 2,90,187.50, while 20 loan recovery cases were taken up in Mon district out of which 5 cases were settled with a total settlement amount of Rs 2,58,000. 

In Jalukie town under Peren DLSA, a total of 21 bank loan recovery cases were settled and an amount of Rs 16,73,341 was recovered through the proceedings. 

As per the release, 11 cases comprising mostly of pre-litigation, criminal compoundable and bank recovery cases were taken up in Wokha. Out of these, ten were disposed with a total settlement amount of Rs 43, 76,358. Similarly, in Mokokchung the Lok Adalat disposed seven cases out of eight that were taken up. The cases which included bank recovery at pre-litigation stage and criminal compoundable were settled for a total amount of Rs 3,32,568.6. 

In Zunheboto, a total of three cases were taken up out of which two were disposed, the release stated. 

Meanwhile, in Longleng, all nine cases taken up were disposed with total settlement amount of Rs 3,49,500. Altogether, 24 cases were taken up in Tuensang, of which 19 were disposed with a total settlement amount of Rs 9,70,468. 

A total of 26 cases were taken up in Phek and 21 were disposed off for a total amount of Rs 20,78,711. In Kohima, 450 cases were put up before the Lok Adalat including one civil case and 200 Telephone or Mobile bill cases. The Bench settled 54 cases with a cumulative settlement amount was Rs 8,04,723.15, release stated.

The highest cumulative settlement amount was recorded in Dimapur where 59 cases were taken up and settled for Rs 1,93,77,678, as per the release.
