
ZUNHEBOTO, APRIL 6 (MExN): Against the backdrop of a legislative assembly lacking an opposition party, legislatures from the NDPP, BJP, NPF, NCP and LJP (RV) political parties under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) on Saturday emphasized on the opposition-less government narrative to woo voters for its consensus candidate, Dr Chumben Murry at an all party consultative meeting in Zunheboto.
The meeting was attended by Zunheboto district legislators including G Kaito Aye, Minister, Road & Bridges, and Convenor, Election Committee PDA Alliance, Zunheboto; KT Sukhalu, Advisor Food & Civil Supply and Legal Metrology; Kazheto Kinimi, Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Co-Convenor, Election Committee PDA Alliance Zunheboto; G Ikuto Zhimomi Advisor for Land Resources; MLA Er Picto Shohe MLA and MLA Dr Sukhato Sema.
The meeting, which was organized by NDPP Zunheboto Region, was also attended by party leaders under PDA representing all 7 constituencies, a press release issued by Irali H Murumi, General Secretary, Central Women Organisation (CWO), NDPP and Election Committee Member, Zunheboto stated.
In his welcome address, Minister G Kaito Aye said “the opposition-less government must produce a resounding and impactful result in the coming elections” and added “aligning with the ruling government in the centre is in the best interest of Nagas, and we must therefore unite towards that goal to ensure more development and progress in our state.”
Advisor, Kazheto Kinimi, from the BJP, emphasized that under the opposition-less government, all the 60 MLAs in Nagaland have resolved to come together in support of Dr Chumben Murry, NDPP candidate to the 2024 LS elections for Naga solution. He also added that “already 13 villages under 31 AC Akuluto have declared their solid support for PDA candidate.”
“Nagaland is facing a historic election because for the first time, 60 MLAs in an opposition-less government have fielded a consensus candidate. And so we should unite together for the betterment of Nagaland, and also for Zunheboto district,” Advisor, Ikuto Zhimomi stressed.
Advisor, KT Sukhalu, IAS (Retd) acknowledged that under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Nagaland has united all the political parties to form an opposition-less government to act as ‘One Voice’ for Naga Political Solution.
‘When solution comes, Nagaland will usher in an era of rapid development and progress, and there will also be social harmony,’ he opined and said, ‘the example of an opposition-less government to help expedite Naga solution will leave a lasting legacy for the future leaders too, and help usher in a model of political commitment and assurance to not only the state as a whole, but to their respective constituencies too.’
NPF MLA, Er Picto Shohe asserted that Dr Chumben Murry is a well learned and seasoned politician, who would really represent Nagaland outstandingly in the Lok Sabha if elected.
LJP (RV) MLA, Dr Sukhato A Sema said that 7 parties cutting across party lines and having a consultative meeting under one roof in support of one consensus candidate is such an historic occasion. ‘Such a meeting should produce positive results in the elections too for the Naga community and the district,’ he added.
Speeches and status reports were delivered from every constituency by the leaders of all the parties of PDA under Zunheboto. Ahovi Zhimomi, Working President NDPP Nagaland, in his speech, urged the gathering to work together for the betterment and progress of the district.
A resolution of the meeting was drafted by the representatives from BJP, NPF, LJP (RV) and NCP headed by the Drafting Convenor, Hutovi P Awomi, General Secretary NDPP Zunheboto. Delivering the concluding remarks, G Kaito Aye announced that he will personally ‘reward the AC which comes out with the best result.’
