
‘Citizen Rights Awareness Campaigner’ conducts programme
Kohima, August 1 (MExN): Citizen rights awareness programme was conducted at Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Church, Kohima on July 30 covering topics such as National Food Security Act, Lokayukta, Food Safety & Standard Act, Consumer Rights, Child Rights Protection, Right to Information Act (RTI) and Human Rights.
The team of ‘Citizen Rights Awareness Campaigner’ (CRAC) said that “in the midst of high rate of corrupt practices in the state, the establishment of Lokayukta in Nagaland is the need of the hour and every citizen should support it.” The team consisting of Wapangmongla Jamir, Vikehiepie Siria, Atovili Y. Kiba, Angam L. N. Phom, David and Kashiho led by its Professor-in-Charged, Kezhokhoto Savi of Kohima Law College conducted the programme.
The Campaigners stated that Lokayukta is to check the mal administration practicing by the public servants in their respective fields in order to curb corruption. And it would be a mechanism for the redressal of citizen’s grievances which is necessary for the success of democracy and also provides clean, transparent and accountable government of the people.
“Corruption is nothing but misuse of entrusted power for private or personal gain and it is internationally recognized as a major problem which is capable of threatening the social, economic and political development of the country. Corruption is anti-national, anti-life, anti-poor and anti-economic development,” said the CRAC during the programme.
They also added that the common practices of corruption in Nagaland are such as nepotism, bribery, favoritism, embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds, backdoor appointment including appointment without vacancy, etc. Meanwhile, Kezhokhoto Savi oin a press release said that in collaboration with the concerned state department i.e. Food & Civil Supplies, an awareness on ‘National Food Security’ fighting against hunger are to be created amongst the people especially ‘the eligible beneficiaries’ both villages/rural and urban areas and the setting up of Lokayukta would help the national food security to implement in a more honest and transparent manner.
