Longjang Baptist Church to celebrate 100 years

DIMAPUR, DEC 18 (MExN): The Longjang Baptist Church will be celebrating the 100th year of existence from December 27 to 29. Hundereds of delegates from all the Ao Churches and various other tribal churches will be participating, according to a press statement issued by L. Ngangnen Pongen, General Secretary Centennial Planning Committee.

It was informed that prominent church leaders of Nagaland Rev Zhabu Terhuja, General Secretary NBCC and Rev O. Alem Executive Secretary, ABAM will be among the main speakers. “Many servants of God, important public leaders and respective elders from all over the State are expected to attend and take part on this special occasion”, it stated.

Songs and talent presentation by the youth as well as different groups and individuals will be the highlight of the programme. Besides the Centennial Choir, the Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church Choir will be participating as special invitee.

It may be mentioned that Longjang village is located in Mokokchung district. Some ten decades back few servants of God led by late Waikaba from nearby Longpa village preached the gospel of Christ. He later became the first Pastor of Longjang Baptist Church.

“They were instrumental in converting some of the hard-hearted people of the village to Christianity. Late Nikenchiba, Takatola and Takasangla were the first three converts and in course of time they Christianized the whole villagers within few years and thus bringing into existence the Longjang Baptist Church in the year 1905”, the organizers informed. At present, Rev L. Tarep is the Pastor.

The Centennial Planning Committee has invited all its citizens and families of the in-laws to attend the centennial celebrations.
