Longleng dist prepares for Measles-Rubella campaign

Longleng, July 9 (MExN): District planning workshop for Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign in Longleng was held on July 9 at Chief Medical Officer’s office.  

Held under the theme, ‘Measles and Rubella move fast, we can and must, move fast,’ ADC Longleng, Temsuwati was the special guest.  

According to the DPRO Longleng report, the ADC appealed to the medical workers present to discharge their assigned duty with utmost sincerity and responsibility to ensure cent percent coverage of the MR vaccine to all the children from 9 months to 15 years of age in the district.  

He further urged them to tie up with the concerned departments, stakeholders and utilize the service of the administration in the blocks and sub-divisions, adding that the administration is ever ready to extend full cooperation and support for successful MR vaccination campaign in the district. He also suggested to create a WhatsApp group of the medical workers, including the stakeholders, concerned departments and the administration for better coordination and to do away with communication gap.  

Deliberating on the objectives of the workshop, Dr. S. Imnameren, DIO Longleng said that the purpose of the district level workshop was to train all the doctors, nurses, ANM/Supervisors and health workers to impart the same training at the block and village levels and health centers to mobilize and supervise the MR vaccination campaign as scheduled. He maintained that it is to educate and orient the complicated issues for safe vaccination and to have maximum response from the mass to avail full immunization.  

Dr. Imnameren also stressed on measles and rubella facts and micro planning tools. Stating that the goal of the government is to eliminate measles and rubella by 2020, he advised the health workers to have micro action planning and homework to achieve the targeted goal. He further said the vaccine will be injected only by the trained medical personnel and urged the health workers to extend full cooperation and support for full implementation of the vaccination campaign in Longleng.  

Dr. Shankar Reddy, RRT (WHO); Egum, Project officer UNDP; Taula, RBSK Coordinator; Dr. Baungam, TOT; and Dr. Imnameren, DIO were the resource persons of the workshop.  

They imparted training on Measles–Rubella: Country update, elimination strategies, epidemiology and rational for MR campaign; Basic strategic operational plans; Basics of micro planning; School micro planning; Planning recording, reporting and Monitoring; MR vaccine and cold chain and Logistics management; AEFI treatment/management; Organizing vaccination session sites including injection safety; Waste management; FAQ on MR campaign including routine immunization; Communication for MR vaccination and routine plan with timelines and other guidelines.  

The workshop was attended by all the health professionals and workers of Longleng district. All the participants took part in the group work/exercise on MR Campaign micro planning.
