
Longleng, May 17 (MExN): The District Administration Longleng has informed that an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been reported at Tangha village on April 24 and the confirmatory report on the same was received by the Chief Veterinary Officer Longleng on May 11.
“The disease is highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild pigs requiring early control and containment of its spread,” stated a report from the state DIPR on Tuesday. It also stated that immediate restrictions have been ordered regarding the sale, transport of pigs, etc.
The report stated that the Tangha and Amosen villages have been categorised as ‘Infected Zone’ under the Prevention and Control of Infection and Contagious Disease in Animal Act of 2009, while seven villages— Yongshei, Yunja, Chingtok, Yongnyah, Yotan S/Comp, Shemshangching and Chingong village— are categorised as ‘Surveillance Zone.’
Meanwhile, the SDO (C) Longleng Trongdiba Tongpi Sangtam has issued a restriction order for ban on slaughtering and sale of pigs in both the infected and surveillance zones, ban on import and export of pigs or piglets in both the zones, and ban on transportation of pigs or piglets in infected zone. The restriction shall come into force with immediate effect till further order, the DIPR report stated.
Anyone found in contravention of this order shall be liable to be prosecuted under the relevant provisions of law, it added.
