Longleng DPDB deliberates on Dikhu Hydro Project

Longleng, February 14 (MExN): The Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting cum picnic was held at Dikhu River in between Tamlu and Wanching village on February 12 under the chairmanship of S Pangnyu Phom, Chairman DPDB & Minister for Health & Family Welfare.


According to a DIPR report, addressing the DPDB members and the villagers, Pangnyu said the main purpose of the meeting cum picnic held under Tamlu sub-division was to know the grievances and problems faced by the people of Tamlu and bring it to the notice of the District Planning Board and redress the issues.


Briefing on the Dikhu Hydro Project, he said all survey of the project had to be completed on or before February 28, and submit to the Government for further necessary action. He informed that when the survey report was found to be feasible, the Government will take the initiative to approach the stakeholders and landowners for discussion, to negotiate for land compensation for final approval of the project. The Chairman clarified that ongoing land survey did not mean that the project was finalized, and negotiation for land compensation will not be done during the survey period. Therefore, Pangnyu appealed the villagers to understand the norms and allow the survey team to complete their assignment for speedy completion of the hydro project.


He also urged the Buranamsang village to take a strong resolution to ban illegal coal mining which is hazardous to health and environment.


BS Nganlang, MLA said that every village have their own local issues which needs to be resolved accordingly, and appealed the department concerned, administration, NGOs and the stakeholders to understand their issues and resolve it judiciously.


The MLA also informed the villagers that as elected representatives of the district, they have given assurance for the project to go ahead because it will benefit the people or they would have initially opposed.


After brief deliberation and discussion, the house forwarded the following agendas to the respective department for approval: Extension, Black Toping & Retaining Wall from Tri-junction to SP office, DUDA Guest House & Administrative Quarter, Longleng; Approach & Circular road from Agri to Shamkang ward under Longleng; Construction of Road from Namsang to Setap; Major Irrigation Project at Yonglok; Change of Nomenclature of Shetap village; Construction of Community hall, Inauguration of Rest House, Extension of GPS class room, Construction of Local Ground and posting of Magistrate at Yonglok; Resume of NST Service to Tamlu and Buranamsang; Opening of GPS at Shetap and Apoigi village; Registration of BNSU under Society Act; Water Drilling at various villages of Tamlu; Posting and creation of various office at Sakshi and Tamlu Sub-Division.
