
Longleng, April 18 (MExN): With regard to National Tobacco Control Programme, the District Level Coordinator Committee (DLCC) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Dharam Raj, IAS, DC and chairman NTCP Longleng at DCs conference hall, Longleng on April 17.
According to a DIPR report, the house deliberated and resolved to make Tobacco Control Cell in all the offices under Longleng district administrative hq. On this regard, all the departments have been asked to implement ‘tobacco free office within next 100 days’ from the date of notification.
Anti-Tobacco Cell in schools
For educational institutions, the house resolved that enforcement of Anti-Tobacco Cell within the schools will have to be initiated by respective Nodal Officer. No smoking zone should exist with the educational institutions, it stated. The house further decided that institutions scoring 90% under the tobacco free Educational institutions guidelines will be rewarded.
All schools have been directed to register formal complaints from tobacco selling shops to district level enforcement squad. The complaint should be lodged from the shop located within 100 yards, it stated. The meeting resolved to form active members or volunteers within the schools and college to assist the respective educational institutions to tackle the use of tobacco.
The meeting also decided to declare tobacco free schools by observing all the norms laid down under ToFEI guidelines.
Further, the house passed a resolution to initiate strict action against the shops selling tobacco products to minors below 18 years and to students in uniforms.
The house also discussed to identify people who has survived from cancer, TB or related diseases due to use of tobacco. The idea is to let the people share their personal testimony, the DIPR report stated.
In order to discourage consumption of tobacco in the villages, it was resolved that the DC and chairman NTCP will write a letter to all village council to comply with the order.
The house also decided to write a letter to the Government of Nagaland to include Longleng under Nashad Mukh Bharat Abhiyan.
Meanwhile, all the ward presidents were authorised to impose a fine of Rs 250 for selling any kind of tobacco products within the ward/jurisdictions.
