Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): The Government Primary School and Government Middle School of Longtsung village, under Wokha, are “facing lots of grievances” due to inadequate teaching staff. According to the Longtsung Students’ Union, two years back four teachers from GPS and one teacher from GMS in Longtsung were transferred with post to various schools “without the knowledge and approval of the village education committee and village council.”
A letter from the union addressed to the Director of School Education informed that one Mhabeni Ovung was transferred with post to GPS Vankhosung; Mhonyamo Odyuo was transferred with post to GPS Sokhu, Baghty, “A Roben Mozhui was transferred with post to GPS Hachung Meshangpen; Nzanbeni was transferred with post to GPS Pyangsa while one Evan Ovung was transferred with post to GPS Moilan.”
At present, the strength of teachers in GPS Longtsung has been reduced to three where it is obvious that the three cannot attend to six classes at the same time so “the students go in vain” the union stated in the letter appended by its President N Mhabemo Mozhui. The GMS on the other hand, lacks a science and physical teacher as they are still yet to be posted. Presently, the GMS has six teachers, the union informed.
Last year, the union had submitted an application to the DIS of Wokha regarding the matter and requests have been made several times. However, actions are yet to be taken, Longtsung’s students lamented. Considering the nature of the plight the government schools in the village are facing, the Longtsung Students’ Union requested the education department to “send back” the transferred teachers. The union also stated that it would be compelled to its own course of action.
