Lotha CSOs to begin indefinite bandh along NH-2 from Feb 8

WOKHA, FEBRUARY 6 (MExN): With the expiry of the 5-day ultimatum served to begin construction at NH-2 Old NH-61) from KM 72.40 to KM 83.00, Wokha district, the Lotha civil society organizations announced on Tuesday that it will impose indefinite bandh of the National Highway passing through Wokha district from February 8, 6 AM onwards. 

A joint press communiqué issued by Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Loths Students’ Union, Wokha District Village Chairmen Association, Wokha Town Colonies’ Chairmen Union and Joint Action Committee and All Commercial Vehicles Association said the indefinite bandh shall be lifted only after their demands are met. 

This include immediate commencement of said work “which has been arbitrarily stopped,” besides addressing various grievances which have already been submitted in numerous correspondences and negotiations with the concerned authorities.
During the bandh, all vehicles coming from other districts shall be banned entry into Wokha district, therefore, all citizens planning to travel through Wokha district have been requested to take note and make their travel plans accordingly, the press communiqué informed. Except for government registered vehicles, intra-district vehicular movement shall be allowed, it added. 

Vehicles exempted from the purview of indefinite bandh include police, paramilitary forces, medical services including ambulances and private vehicles carrying patients or dead bodies, fire and emergency services, postal services and the press.

“We earnestly appeal all fellow Lothas in particular and our Naga brethren in general to understand our genuine demand for realizing our right to have good roads, and to extend us your kind cooperation and support in our fight for justice,” the press communiqué stated.
