WDFA suspends two teams for one year with immediate effect
Wokha, January 27 (MExN): The Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) on Saturday suspended the Nyiro Range Sports Association (NRSA) and Englan Range Sports Association (ERSA) for one year with immediate effect from January 27, 2024.
The ‘team suspension’ order was issued by the WDFA after violence erupted on the field during the second match between Englan Range Sports Association (ERSA) and Nyiro Range Sports Association at the ongoing Lotha Football Championship 2024.
Several videos of the incident were circulated on social media where the supporters could be seen belting stones; however, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of the police.
The 13th edition of the Lotha Football Championship (LFC) 2024 organised by WDFA is being held at local ground, Wokha since January 16.
Regarding today’s incident, the WDFA reported that one of the team supporters breached the grounds during the ongoing match, which resulted in retaliation from the other team supporters, resulting in escalation of the situation.
“The WDFA hereby suspends both the teams i.e. NRSA and ERSA for a period of one year with immediate effect from 27th January 2024 from participating in the tournament organised by Wokha District Football Association in accordance with the by-laws Point No. 12 under Clause One (1) of the 13th Lotha Football Championship 2024,” the order stated.
“The decision was taken in presence of both the team management and WDFA Officials, whereby agreed to abide by the laid down regulation of the Organising Committee,” Samuel Ezung, President WDFA and Zubenthung Ovung, General Secretary WDFA stated in the order.
