
Wokha, February 1 (DIPR): The first Lothastu GBs general conference cum seminar was held on January 29 at Town Hall Wokha, with Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Vyasan R (IAS) as the chief guest.
Addressing the GBs during the gathering, the Chief Guest said that by virtue of being appointed by the government, the GBs should remember their role and responsibilities and urged them to discharge their duties with outmost sincerity. As an agent of the government, the GBs should also take up the responsibility of monitoring funds provided by the government so that development works are properly implemented, he reminded.
He also urged them to uphold the tradition, customs and practices of the forefathers to meet the challenges of the people. Pointing out that the government is providing red blankets as a sign of respect, the DC appealed to the gathering of GBs not to misuse it, but to honour the gesture shown to them. Earlier, the chief guest also unfurled the GBs flag.
Chairman, Kyong Hoho, Yansathung Jami and Vice President, Nagaland GBs Federation also delivered short speeches. During the conference, the oldest GB among the Lotha (Kyong) community Ritsamo Shitiri (90 Years) was felicitated. He was appointed as GB in the year 1957. Highlights of the function included presentation of Folk song by Akuk Village GBs and modern Lotha song by Lumka and Yant. The opening function was chaired by B Longshi Odyuo, while vote of thanks was delivered by Vice President Nagaland GBs federation P.N.Tungoe.
