Wokha, July 26 (MExN): The Lotha Middle Range Students' Union and associations of the range have resolved that it will oppose all forms of taxation and donations affecting development.
A resolution to this effect was taken during a joint meeting called by the Lotha Middle Range Students' Union on July 21 at Town Hall, Sanis. The meeting was attended in hundreds from 17 different villages, a press release from the LMRSU informed.
During the meeting, issues and agendas were put on and after a long deliberation a number of drafts and resolutions was prepared and later adopted by the house as reference points for future social agreements and resolutions.
“Wokha-Merapani Road being the life line of Wokha district, Lotha middle range Students' union and Associations will not accept and will oppose any forms of taxation and donations that affect development,” the first of the resolutions read.
Pointing to “Clean election” being the trending topic among young intellectuals, the meeting also resolved to support and adhere to rules “as set by the Government on conduct of elections”.
The meeting was attended by a cross section of people including politicians, church leaders, village leaders, senior leaders, students, intellectuals etc.
Speaking on the occasion, former NLA Deputy Speaker Ralanthung Yanthan said that "Good road condition is the mother of all development" and in this regard, urged the students to play an active role for development.
A representative from Lotha Middle Range Pastor Association also attended the meeting and encouraged the students to create awareness on clean election amongst the student community for a change.
