LOVE YOUR EYES: 23rd World Sight Day observed in Dimapur

Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): The 23rd World Sight Day was observed by National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), Dimapur with Bridge Programme Certificate in Community Health for Nurses (BPCCHN) students, School of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur under the theme ‘Love your Eyes’ on October 13.

Dr Asonla Aying, Sr Specialist, District Hospital in a press release stated that in commemoration of the event, over 150 eye screenings for refractive error have been conducted in District Hospital Eye OPD. Eye screening tests will be focused during the event for early detection and treatment of any eye diseases to control and prevent various eye related diseases, she stated.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Asong Aying informed that the event is being initiated under NPCBVI with an aim to enhance public awareness of eye health and to ensure eye care is accessible and affordable to all.

She sensitised the participants on the six tips to ensure better eye care; regular eye check-up, be aware of all related eye diseases, wear goggles to protect the eye from UV rays, take regular break from screen and minimize screen time, regularly monitor blood pressure and blood sugar especially for those who have these chronic illness, and maintain healthy life-style. She stated that following these six simple tips will immensely help to protect the eyes and will prevent many eye diseases.

She further stated that the eyes are not only the mirror of the heart but also the whole body as the eyes are the first organs to manifest many systemic diseases, therefore, urged the aspiring students to spread the awareness on eye care and the importance of regular eye checkup wherever they may work in the future.
