Tuensang, October 29 (MExN): DEF Tuensang needed a tie-breaker to beat Oziepik FC and set up a mouth-watering clash against defending champions Sangzi FC in the semi-finals of the 26th Loyem Memorial Trophy.
The fourth quarter-final match played at Loyem Memorial Ground on Monday saw Oziepik FC take the lead courtesy Sangtsoi who found the back of the net in the 33rd minute. But the lead of a solitary goal against a stronger team with the second half remaining meant the game remained in the balance.
It did not take long for DEF Tsg to equalise as six minutes into the restart, Aketo out-tussled the opponent defender and chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and into the net.
Neither teams looked ambitious going forward as the 90 minutes of play ended. Even in extra time, both teams failed to produce anything worthwhile and the fate of the match was left to be decided via a penalty shootout. In the tie-break, four Oziepik FC players missed from the spot as DEF Tsg won 3-1.
DEF Tsg will face the defending Champion Sangzi FC on October 31.
