DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): The 27th Loyem Memorial Trophy organised by the Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) kick started on October 10 at Loyem Memorial Ground, Tuensang.


N. Bongkhao Konyak, Advisor, DUDA, government of Nagaland graced the occasion as the special guest along with several other dignitaries.


Defending champions, Nyenshen FC took on United FC in the opening match and won comfortably by a margin of 3-1. 


Vinoka of Nyenshen scored the first goal of this edition in the 6th minute sending their supporters into frenzy. The lead didn’t last long as United captain Peshie scored a beautiful volley in the 21st minute to tie the score 1-1 and rattled the champions for a moment.


However, in the 27th minute, Vinoka scored his second goal and took the lead once more. After the half time break, Pete scored in the first minute of the second half further denting the hopes of United’s comeback. The scoreline remained 3-1 till the final whistle.


Earlier, the reception of the special of the special guest was done by Changün Cultural Troupe. In the opening ceremony P. Ngamen Chang gave the welcome speech and called on the people gathered to come forward and join hands to make the environment plastic free. He also stated that the reason behind the change in the bye and to limit the foreign players is to uplift local players from ENPO area and to give them more opportunity. 


Speaking on the occasion, the special guest extended his gratitude by remembering late Changkong Chang who initiated this tournament in his father’s memory, late Loyem Chang with a vision to bring unity, mutual understanding and to give privilege to young people to excel in the field of sports.


He also reminded the people gathered that Tuensang district is the torch bearer for organizing ENPO ahead and henceforth, Chang community should set an example for building peace and development in ENPO. 


The program was chaired by Anti Chang, meanwhile a special song was sung by B. Ramji Chang and L. Ongmang Chang, pastor Yungkük Baptist Lashong, Tuensang said the invocation.
