Loyola HSS wins 2nd Kohima Dist Inter-School Football Tourney

Loyola Higher Secondary School Jakhama today emerged the coveted champion title of 2nd Kohima District Inter School Football Tournament here, jointly organized by Royal Club, Kohima, school education department and youth resources & sports, Nagaland.  

In the thrilling final match, Loyola School defeated Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School Kohima 4-3.  

Playing the final match, the first half ended in a goalless draw. However, coming back to the second half, Ketohol Thao (21) found the net in the 51st minute to give Loyola School the lead.  

Mt.Sinai HSS soon restored parity and found the much needed equalizer through the boot of Toshisongzung (12) in the 69th minute to make it 1-1 draw till the end of final whistle.  

The match was proceeded to extra time of 15 minutes where again both teams failed to break the deadlock of 1-1 draw.  

Eventually, during the penalty shootout, the game went in favour of Loyola HSS by 3-2 to lift the champion title.  

Loyola School pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 while Mt. Sinai HSS walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.  

Losing semi finalists- Chandmari Higher Secondary School Kohima and Northfield Kohima also received Rs. 20,000 each.  

Vinongol Luho of Loyola School who earned the highest scorer of the tournament (7 goals), bagged the player of the tournament title and awarded with Rs. 5000.  

Chandmari HSS Kohima and Northfield Kohima were declared as Best discipline team and best cheering team respectively and pocketed Rs. 5000 each.  

Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, advisor for rural development graced the valedictory function and gave away prize to the winners.  

Dr. Kire suggested the organizers to initiate the state level inter- school football tournament in the coming days.  

Earlier, the valedictory function was chaired by organizing committee convenor Er. Khupi Natso while brief note on the tournament was shared by Royal Club president Er. Kevizatuo Miachieo.  

Vote of thanks was proposed by Royal Club general secretary Kenny Peseyie.   30 schools participated in the tournament.
