Loyola School Jakhama hosts inaugural prog

Dimapur, April 1(MExN): The Cultural Club of Loyola School, Jakhama had its inaugural Programme for the year on April 1, 2011 in the School Hall. Rev Fr (Dr) Abraham Mhonchan, Principal, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama and Life Member of INTACH were the chief guests. Sentila Yanger, Convenor of INTACH (Nagaland) and T. L. Merry, Co-Convenor of INTACH (Nagaland) & Vice-President of NPF were the guests of honour.
A press note issued by Joe Coelho SJ, Headmaster, Loyola School, Jakhama informed that Dr Mhonchan spoke of the need not just to focus on the external elements of culture and appreciate it, but also inculcate the cultural values and take pride in being a Naga. Sentila, explained the meaning of culture using the analogy of a tree. She also spoke about the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and its activities. She opened up new avenues for the club members by inviting them to register as a Young INTACH Club. Merry spoke on the functioning of INTACH in Nagaland. Mhashevono, Nothongonu and Rokovinu gave a tati performance and the School Choir rendered a special number.
The note further mentioned that Loyola School Cultural Club was formed in 2009 and over the past two years has conducted numerous activities like learning traditional songs and dance, playing the tati, visiting places like Khonoma and Touphema, collecting artifacts and books and preserving them in a mini-museum in the school, cleaning the campus and neighbourhood, conducting annual seminars on relevant topics, organizing competitions, etc. The motto of the club is: Let us inculcate our culture to bring peace, unity, love and joy.
