LRC-NSF backs APO resolution on ILP, urges united Naga stand

Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has commended what it termed as Angami Public Organisation (APO) “firm and time-bound resolution” on the Inner Line Pass and protection of Naga interests, while urging other Naga tribal organisations and apex bodies to adopt a coordinated approach.

In a statement, the ILRC said the APO had highlighted the continued failure to effectively enforce safeguards under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, including in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland.

It said the APO’s phased approach provides individuals and non-indigenous communities time to address illegal immigration and ensure that employment, services, documents and tenancy arrangements comply with the law.

The ILRC maintained that its concern was not with non-indigenous people who enter, work, trade and reside in Nagaland lawfully, but with ‘illegal immigration and non-compliance with existing laws.’

The commission called on other Naga tribal organisations and apex bodies to join the initiative, while urging the State Government to respond to the matter without delay.

It also stated that its representation to the Chief Minister, submitted on October 1 following the National Seminar on the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, was still awaiting a response from the Chief Minister’s Office.

According to the ILRC, the representation was reported in print media, but space constraints prevented publication of the full text. Organisations and individuals seeking a complete copy may contact the commission through its official WhatsApp number, +91 84138 99928, it added.
