
BENGALURU, AUGUST 29 (MExN): The Lotha Students Union, Bengaluru has expressed shock over the recent physical assault and harassment of Pastor Rhanlamo Kikon of Yanpha Baptist Church in Nakhuti town in August 24.
In a communiqué, the Union stated that the incident, in which the pastor was violently attacked and threatened at gun point, represents a grave violation of rights and an affront to shared valued of peace and humanity.
It also expressed concern that the attack was perpetrated by a national worker as it contradicts the core principles enshrined co-heirs with the Naga struggle established by forefathers. “This violation of fundamental values not only discredits the struggle but also endangers the safety of our community, posing a threat to the security and dignity of the whole community,” it stated.
“At this juncture, when Nagas are engaged in the long struggle for freedom, it is unacceptable for those in uniform- whom we look upon as protectors- to instigate coercion and threaten murder without tangible reasons. Such actions should be condemned by all right-thinking citizens as it is unacceptable in any civilized society,” the Union stated.
It has called on the authorities to take immediate and effective steps to ensure the safety and protection of all community members. It is imperative that the rule of law prevails and that every citizen feels secure and protected from such violent acts, it added.
