The Losami Students’ Union (LSU) held its 64th general session-cum-37th freshers’ social from December 18 to 19 at the GMS Losa Basa playground in Losami village, Phek district, under the theme “Alchemy: Leveraging the potentialities.”

Director of Tourism, Nagaland, Veyielo Doulo, who graced the inaugural session as the inaugural guest, urged students to support one another and avoid pulling each other down, calling for an environment of love, unity and peaceful coexistence. Stressing the values of faith, hope and love, he said love was the foundation for unity and peace, and encouraged students to pursue excellence with determination and a positive mindset.

Touching upon the session theme, Doulo called on the LSU to adopt a comprehensive strategy to thrive in a competitive world and urged students to make the most of their energy to reach greater heights. Emphasising the role of parents, he said continued investment in children’s education was crucial for building a productive society. He also informed that the tourism department was willing to organise a tourism awareness seminar at Losami, involving neighbouring villages.

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Mteisuding Heraang, who attended as the honoured guest, said quality education was fundamental to a progressive and economically prosperous society.

Emphasising equality in education, he urged village councils to pay closer attention to the functioning of government schools, stating that they were on par with schools elsewhere and staffed with qualified teachers. He called for introspection to strengthen government institutions rather than undermining them.

During the introductory session, Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Vezuhü Keyho urged students to avoid dependency and strive for excellence, while highlighting the importance of cultural values beyond songs and dances. Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) president Zhonelü Tunyi advised students to limit excessive mobile phone use and prioritise studies and personal growth.

Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) president Pfülo Sarah and Losami Village Council chairman Zechete Mekrisuh extended greetings, while Middle Khomi Students’ Union president Bino Tenenu conveyed a solidarity message. Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Meluri, Wetsote K Swuro graced the valedictory session.

Earlier, LSU president Webeko Akami delivered the presidential address. The inaugural session was chaired by former LSU president Wehiwu Mekrisuh, while general secretary Emikewe K Tara presented the LSU report. The programme also featured academic excellence awards and cultural presentations.
