Lt Gen Chauhan retires as DGAR

Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM today retired as the Director General Assam Rifles (DG AR) after a successful stint of 39 years in the Indian Armed Forces.

An AR press release informed that Gen Chauhan, who was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1979, took over as the 19th DGAR on December 12, 2016.  

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, National Defence College and Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), he also had the unique distinction of handling media relations for the Army in its public information unit, it said.

“Gen Chauhan believed that the Assam Rifles is an elite Force assigned with the dual task of border guarding along the International Indo-Myanmar Border and tackling internal insurgency,”  it added.  

The release further said that the former DGAR has “complete faith in the efficiency of his Force that has a rich history of 183 years of presence in the Northeast of India.”  

He leaves behind a legacy that will be a challenge for the future.
