Commemorating the celebrations of the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lt Gen RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command and Colonel of Kumaon, Naga Regiments and Kumaon Scouts today flagged off Motorcycle Expedition by Indian Army from Kohima.

Undertaken by the Indian Army of 2nd Naga Regiment billed as “Kargil Victory Ride” from Kohima to Kargil (K2K), this expedition commemorates the commencement 25 years of the Kargil Vijay Diwas and pay tribute to the gallant Naga soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty during Operation Vijay.

Addressing the flagging off ceremony at Assam Rifles helipad in Kohima, Lt Gen RP Kalita highlighted that “the expedition is being conducted to commemorate commencement of 25 years of Operation Vijay wherein the brave Naga Warriors enriched the soil of “our Northern Borders by their blood towards safeguarding the territorial integrity of our motherland.” He said the expedition is also part of connecting North East to the rest of “our country” and to spread awareness about brave soldiers of Nagaland who participated in Kargil War. He paid homage to all the martyrs. The GOC-in-C also wished the team “all success.”
 
Expedition team to traverse across over 3700 Kms
The expedition team, consisting 25, is led by the valiant Mashkoh Warriors.

They will traverse across over 3700 Kms from Kohima to Kargil through mesmerizing and challenging landscapes passing through eight states and two union territories.

The team has taken the honorous task of collecting the soil from the villages of “our fallen heroes of the Kargil War, along the entire route and carry them as a tribute to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, according to PRO (Defence).

The team will also interact with all sections of society enroute, highlighting the role of Indian Army in nation building, motivating youth and addressing to the grievances of Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris.

The motorcycle expedition will be flagged-in on Kargil Vijay Diwas (26 July 2023) at Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
