MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Longsa Village Council has urged the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung to implement strict monitoring of heavy vehicular traffic crossing the Dikhu Bailey Bridge along NH-202 (Mokokchung–Tuensang road), citing concerns over the bridge's deteriorating condition.
In a representation submitted to the DC, Council Chairman Akangjungshi Tatar stated that the Dikhu Bridge, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the 1960s with an 8-ton capacity, has become severely dilapidated and is now beyond repair.
Describing the bridge as an “economic lifeline” connecting Mokokchung to neighbouring districts, the council expressed fears that the structure may collapse under the weight of overloaded vehicles unless immediate measures are taken.
The council requested the district administration to deploy police personnel at the bridge to enforce vehicular weight limits and ensure the safety of commuters. "We urge your kind authority to take immediate and necessary action towards this genuine plea," the representation stated.
