Medziphema, September 26 (MExN): Medziphema Area Football Association (MAFA) Football Tournament kicked off on Tuesday at the Medziphema Local Ground with Dr. Kevigulie Khro, Retired Additional Director, Govt of Nagaland declaring the tournament open.
During the welcome address, President of Medziphema Village Youth Association said that he had learnt from elders that the MAFA Football tournament was once an important tournament in the area with many villages participating but due to unavoidable circumstances, the tournament stopped.
He informed that Medziphema village decided to re-organise MAFA Football Tournament this year to bring out good sportsmanship in the field of football and also to develop unity and better understanding in the area. The tournament will be held from September 26 to October 6.
In Tuesday’s matches MVYO ‘A’ beat Moava 9-8 via a tie-breaker while Tsiepama Youth Organisation beat Sirhima Youth Student Union 4-2 – again via tie-break.
