Zunheboto, May 19 (DIPR): The Home Department, Political Branch, Government of Nagaland has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the April 24 Ghathashi incident, where two persons were injured, one of whom succumbed to his wounds. The notice, dated May 13, directed the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto, L Akato Sema to head the inquiry. On April 24, the notice stated, “due to attack by a group of people, one Hokishe Chishi was injured and one Kuhovi of Ighanumi village was found fatally injured, who later succumbed to injury on the way to Kohima.” It added that there was a “reported attack by a mob from Ighanumi village, vandalizing houses belonging to the family members of the accused Kaito, S/o Asapu of Mukalimi village.” It stated that the matter requires a detailed inquiry to find out the causes leading to the death and the subsequent mob attack, which vandalized properties and injured people. The notice directed the Zunheboto DC to initiate an in-depth inquiry into the causes and circumstances leading to the death of late Kuhovi, S/o Xekiye of Ighanumi village and the subsequent “mob attack.” It further ordered the DC to inquire into the person or group of persons responsible for the incident and whether the incident could have been avoided. The notice gave the DC fifteen days from the date of its publication to submit its report to the Nagaland state government.
