
Dimapur, October 30 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised three-day training on ‘Mainstreaming gender & women empowerment for agriculture development’ from October 27–29, 2016. The training, which was attended by ATMA functionaries from all districts of Nagaland, focussed on creating consciousness and awareness as well as educating the participants about gender issues in the agriculture sector, according to a press release from Director, SAMETI.
Resource persons for the training were Dr. Watila Jamir, Lecturer, Integrated Extension Training Centre (IETC), Department of Agriculture, Medziphema and Dr. J. Longkumer, Associate Professor, Department of Extension, SASRD. The course of the training covered important topics like Concept of gender – Sex and Gender, Building Gender awareness, Gender definition, Gender stereotype; SHG – An approach for eliminating poverty through women empowerment; Gender community situation, Gender discriminations and Gender issues; Discussion of labour in the society; Policies and programmes for women empowerment; SFA – Force field analysis, SWOT Analysis; Gender relations in agriculture and allied sector; Gender relations and responsibility; Gender rules in agriculture and allied sector.
The valedictory function was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Lhaihoichong Singson, ATM Peren and Nzanbemo Murry, ATM Kiphire. Special guest, Dr. Watila Jamir, Lecturer, IETC in her valedictory speech challenged the participants to implement the training course into practice in their respective districts and sensitise the grassroots people on gender issues in order to enlighten them about the importance of women empowerment and other social issues. She also encouraged the participants to embrace the things that will help them progress while letting go of the things that will take them down, the release added.
The training concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by the special guest, while vote of thanks was pronounced by Sentinaro Longchar, DPD SAMETI.
