Short-term Maintenance work is ongoing on National Highway 702D from 0.00 (Mokokchung Junction) to Km 63.00 (Longtho), Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in Charge of PWD (National Highways) stated on Tuesday.

For the two-lane expansion of NH-702D, Project Management Consultancy Services for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), pre-construction activities, and construction supervision of the two-laning with a paved shoulder of NH-702D from Mokokchung to Watiyim (Km 0.00 to Km 70.00) has been initiated, he said. The process is currently underway, he added in a reply to a question posed by MLA Nuklotoshi on the status of NH 702D from Mokokchung Junction to Mariani and its maintenance.

Meanwhile, in response to another query from the same MLA, the Deputy CM said that the two-lane expansion of NH 2 (formerly NH 61) from Doyang Bridge to VK Town, i.e., from 101 km to 125 km, had to be “retendered due to the termination of the first contractor” on July 3, 2023.

The appointed date for the new contractor has been set as June 18, 2024, he added. However, Zeliang noted that currently, the Landowners’ Union NH-2 (VK Area) has halted the work due to non-receipt of land compensation.

Work on the specific portion of the highway has been allocated to M/s Kaushal Sharma, Tinsukia, Assam, he added.
