Mezoma, December 7 (MExN): A Monolith in remembrance of Maj. Riato Rhitso Beyiese was erected in Mezoma village on December 5.
According to a press release received here, late Maj. Riato served the Naga nation and died while on duty at the young age of 33.
Inaugurating the monolith, Zapuvisie Lhousa Kuotsu, CEC Member, Naga National Counci highlighted the gathering on the life and commendable deeds of late Maj. Riato and informed that he was a a recipient of Hero Award and Military Service Medal-1 from the Federal Government of Nagaland, it said.
He was a brave and committed Naga and showed exemplary valour in executing his duties up to the time of his death on July 17, 1970, Koutsu added.
The Monolith was erected by the Vihutsumia Khel of Mezoma village along with support from well-wishers.
The programme was chaired by Keviseto Rhitso, President, Vihutsumia Youth Organization, prayer was pronounced by Rüülhoukho Khawakhrie, Catechist, Catholic Church Mezoma.
After briefs sharings by Rovilhousie Kuotsu President, Vihutsumia Mechü Kehou and Visanyiizo Kuotsu (Nephew of Major Riato), it concluded with a Vote of thanks by Thepfiikrulie Rhitso.
