Kohima | June 3
A major burglary was reported at the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Complex, allegedly occurring during the night of June 2. The complex, which also houses the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) office, is located adjacent to the Super Market Complex in Kohima.
According to police, the incident is believed to have taken place between 8:00 pm on Monday and 4:00 am on Tuesday. An FIR has been registered at the North Police Station, Kohima. However, authorities have refrained from disclosing further details, citing concerns that it could hamper the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to The Morung Express, Kohima Police Additional Superintendent of Police and PRO stated that a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Dimapur was requisitioned and arrived later in the afternoon to assist in the investigation.
Despite being a relatively new establishment, sources revealed that the KMC complex reportedly lacked CCTV surveillance, which may complicate the investigation process.
While the police have not officially confirmed the value of the stolen items or cash, sources familiar with the matter estimated the loss to be around Rs 1 crore. The stolen amount was allegedly taken from multiple cabinets within the KMC and KSCDL office sections.
The break-in was first discovered by housekeeping staff on Tuesday morning, who noticed signs of forced entry at the office entrance. Following the discovery, the offices remained closed for the day, with employees advised not to report for duty.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be shared as they become available.
