Kohima, July 17 (MExN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has stated that the DAN government had initiated numerous works throughout the state, involving almost all the departments.
Rio said that many of the works have been completed while others are still in progress due to the tireless efforts of the collective leadership of ‘this government.’
He said that the ruling DAN government has provided separate funds for backward areas in addition to the LADF (Local Area Development Fund) plus Prime Minister’s package.
“DAN government is not stationary, not a post office. It is a working government. We even go to Delhi and plead for funds on behalf of the public. So let us do good things and make backward areas into forward ones,” Rio said while addressing a meeting of NPF party workers at Meluri on July 14 last.
Regarding the long-standing demand for upgradation of Meluri Sub Division to ADC headquarters level, fully separate Area Constituency for Pochury tribe and various other demands, the Chief minister said “My cabinet will study and act accordingly. When the Administrative Reforms Committee submits its report, we will do the needful…. Government work is systematic through files and accountability. So, it does take sometime.”
Rio said that while DAN government is doing its best, it cannot perform magic all of a sudden.” We cannot do all in such a short time. We need another tenure, another chance.”
For this, the people of Meluri (like the electorate in all the other constituencies) must vote again for the NPF candidate, he said adding “A seed can bear much fruit. But Nagas tend to consume the seed itself by selling off their voting rights. Sow, reap and then enjoy the fruits.”
PHE minister P. Longon, parliamentary secretary Kipili Sangtam, and MLA Heno also spoke at the meeting and they all rooted for Yitachu.
Parliamentary secretary for justice and law Yitachu expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for their confidence in him.
He said without stability there can be no tangible development. So all have to work in coordination.
Former MLAs Rasutho and Chiekhutso as well as president of Pochury People’s Forum (PPF), Penthu also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, NPF Phek Division president Chivotso Nienu, who chaired the meeting, said that Neiphiu Rio was the most widely traveled Chief Minister who visited every nook and corner of the state particularly in the rural areas.
“Unlike many other political leaders who come, give speeches and they stay away, Rio would repeat his visits regularly. He is also the first chief minister who did not allot himself any portfolio during the initial stage of his ministry formation,” Nienu added.
Later on, the Chief Minister handed over the key of brand new van to the Meluri Town Council chairman for use in the public interest.
