The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Nagaland in collaboration with State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Nagaland today celebrated Pariksha Parv 4.0 at SIEMAT Conference Hall, SCERT, Kohima.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zavise Rume, Professor, Counseling Cell, SCERT said that Pariksha Parv 4.0 is being observed across the country from April 11 to celebrate examination as a joyful activity of self expression. The events will continue till May 31.

He said that a new idea has been given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate the festival of examination, and that the idea of Pariksha Parv is to celebrate examinations and to remove the stress and anxiety of examination.

He viewed that teachers must adopt a comprehensive strategy to test the skills and abilities of the students. All efforts should be made to make the exam package more attractive, more transparent and take exam as a joyful activity, he maintained.

Dr Rume maintained that the professional role is very important to undertake oral test, observation and writing skills of the students, which would go a long way in reducing the stress. Also stating that evaluation should be taken up in a frequent manner, he said “As you teach, you should also evaluate what you teach.”

Stressing on the need to provide remedies at the right time, he said that “Education is a continuous process. Therefore, evaluation also should be continuous and comprehensive.”

Dr Rume said that a time has come to train the students to write exam for securing good marks while noting that about 95% of students in India have not been trained as to how to write exam.

To lessen the stress and anxiety of children
Joint Secretary of Social Welfare Department and Secretary SCPCR, K Mhathung Tsanglao said that Pariksha Parv is being introduced by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights for the reason that examination has become stressful for children.

In this, Pariksha Parv is being held across the country to lessen the stress and anxiety, he said, adding that the state commission is directly involved in the process of mitigating the stress in the interest and well being of the children. He called upon one and all to become champions of Child Rights and also learn more about child rights.

Tsanglao also called upon the gathering to help children to become mentally stronger and enable them to take their responsibilities and become better citizens of the future.

 Changing outlook towards examinations
Emphasising on the objectives of Pariksha Parv, Vesekho Khesoh, trainee, Diploma in School Counseling SCERT Nagaland said that it is about celebrating exams and overcoming examination stress by conducting various programmes.

Today's programme which is part of NCPCR’s month long campaign, has really changed our outlook towards stress and anxiety of examination, he said.

“This programme must be carried down to the students by the educationists and teachers because this will change the outlook of children towards exam stress and overcome their anxiety,”  said Khesoh adding that this endeavour should continue as it provides a platform for students, parents and teachers to share their thoughts and get guidance and important tips from the experts.

“This programme should reach the grassroots level where in a society like Nagaland where most of the children are in rural areas. Village wise school campaign will be very beneficial for children and for that matter, the community as a whole,” he suggested.

When stress is perceived negatively or becomes excessive, it leads to anxiety before and during examinations and ultimately affects their academic achievement, he said and challenged the gathering to jointly do “our part and bring positive impact through social media platforms and to provide experts on exam related stress and anxiety in children.”

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Medemmongla Jamir, Research Associate, Counseling Cell, SCERT while welcome address was delivered by Kenny Kath, trainee, Diploma in School Counseling, SCERT Nagaland.
