Malaria awareness programme conducted at Doyang Forest Staff

Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): With cases of malaria being reported from various parts of Nagaland, an awareness programme on the preventive, precautionary and control measures for mosquito borne diseases was held for the staffs of Doyang Plantation Division, Wokha on October 7. It was conducted by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Wokha through Dr. Zuben Kikon, DVBO, Wokha.  

Speaking at the occasion, Renjamo Humtsoe SW, NVBDCP stated that the field staffs of forest department are constantly exposed to risk factors such as mosquitoes and ticks while on duty.  

Diseases like malaria are usually regarded as little threat to life but it is still one of the most deadly diseases, he said advocating the need to keep clean surrounding, especially to avoid or remove stagnant water.  

Harmless looking conditions like potholes or even old tyre could very well provide suitable breeding conditions for mosquitoes, he added.   He also spoke on the proper advantages and use of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs), the testing and treatment facilities available in the PHCs, sub centre and village level and also other mosquito borne diseases such as dengue and Japanese encephalitis.  

Humtsoe also gave a brief idea on the symptoms and care for Scrub Typhus disease which is caused by ticks.  

Prabhat Kumar IFS, Doyang Plantation Division lauded the NVBDCP team for their concern for the department and for distributing informative pamphlets to the staff. The program was chaired by Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer Doyang Afforestation Range who also gave the vote of thanks. Keeping in mind the approaching Amur Falcon migration season, the RFO said the staff will now be better equipped to keep themselves safe from any such eventualities while performing duty. Imsubenla Ozukum, State Public Health Consultant, NVBDCP was also lauded for coordinating the programme. Other NVBDCP staffs present at the program were Nchumbemo Ezung, MTS and Nchumbemo, SW.  

The migration season for Amur Falcon begins from October and goes on till November, with the peak season during later part of October and early part of November, the RFO also informed in a press note.
