MALT calls for setting up fire and emergency services in Mangkolemba

Mangkolemba, May 11 (MExN): One house was razed after a fire broke out at Mangko Ward in Mangkolemba on May 9.   According to a press release from the Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (MALT), fire broke out at the house belonging to one Lipok Jamir “due to a possible short circuit which damaged property amounting to more than 25 lakhs of rupees”. At the time of incident, there was no one at home thus avoiding any injury to human, it added.

The MALT while informing this expressed “great dismay” over the lack of Fire and Emergency Services in Mangkolemba, a sub divisional head quarter for three ranges under Mokokchung district.

“For many years, there are fire related accidents at Mangkolemba, however, owing to the absence of the fire brigade, many houses and properties were destroyed,” the MALT stated while claiming that the May 9 accident could have been controlled and the house and properties saved had there been a fire department at Mangkolemba.

Also claiming that the police department at Mangkolemba is facing “utmost hardship in mobility” as there is no vehicle in the department, the MALT disclosed that the police officers and the personnel have to hire private vehicles for official duties.

“This has largely crippled the versatility and swiftness in delivering security services by the police department at Mangkolemba,” the MALT maintained.

In this regard, the Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem appealed the concerned departments to facilitate “necessary facilities” at Mangkolemba town at the earliest to provide adequate services to the public in times of accidents and danger.
